A Study on Chromosomes of Normal Korean
Choi Kyoo-Wan

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to obtain the incidence of chromosomal aberration among the cells from normal, healthy Korean. The results of this study were compared with the data from tha other countries and will serve as the control data for future studies on the induced chromosome aberration. The numerical and structural aberration of chromosomes were analyzed in the 3,868 cells fom 55 normal subjects (26 males and 29 females) who had been living in the urban area at least for the last 2 years and had never been exposed to any kind of irradiation other than diagnostic examinations.
Out of the 3, 868 cells, 243 cells (6. 3%) were aneuploid. The majority (97. 5%) of the aneuploid cells were of hypodiploid, the most frequently missing chromosomes being the C and G group chromosomes. There were no significant difference bltween the male and female groups. The overall incidence of structural aberration including gaps and breaks was 2. 57%. However, the incidence of breaks and more complex abnormalities was only 0.56% altogether. There was no cell with dicentric, sing, translocation or inversion. This finding suggests a slightly low incidence of chromosome aberration among normal Korean as compared with the report in the other countries.
